He has used the story of Truman Burbank to illustrate the dilemma concerning somebody’s right to privacy and how the media manipulates its audience into feeling or believing exactly what it wishes. ... In The Truman Show, Truman Burbank’s whole life is shown on television. The show that he is on, The Truman Show, is broadcast twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year. Everything is shown on The Truman Show, which means that Truman has no privacy whatsoever. The show is watched by billions of people, who seem to not care that they are invading Truman’s privacy. The viewers would not even consider showing their lives on television and would be horrified if it was done without consent, however, they are perfectly happy to watch Truman. The Truman Show really makes the viewer think about their privacy. ... Through The Truman Show, The Truman Show examines the topic of media manipulation. In The Truman Show, media manipulation is used in two main ways. The first use of the media to manipulate the audience is by simply getting them to watch and enjoy The Truman Show.
