Later, the streetcar drivers, postal workers, telegraphers, railway workers and employees of stores such as dairy and bakery all went on strike. Suddenly, the city of Winnipeg was paralysed. The purpose for the strike was to ask the government for decent wages, shorter hours and the right to bargain for better working conditions, which were reasonable. This non-violent action, under the direction of the Central Strike Committee, made a huge impact on people¡¯s daily lives, and the strike helped some people in the community to recognized the values of the workers.
