Video Critique: "Amistad" The video we viewed in history, The Amistad, took place in the late 1830s and early 1840s. The Amistad, a ship full of stolen Africans, was sailing to Cuba, preparing to sell those onboard into slavery. ... The issue covered in this film is the fight for the Africans stolen from their homeland, to return back to Africa and not face criminal charges for their actions aboard The Amistad. ... Basically I think that Spieldberg made this movie in order to inform others of the historical event associated with The Amistad, and the impact it made on American society.
