This paper will focus on the glass ceiling that aspiring minority head football coaches face, because of the racism in sports. This topic appealed to me because sports are commonly thought to be a model for racial harmony. The NFL and other organizations like to portray team sports as something where people of all races work together to achieve a common goal. Movies like Brian’s Song detail the interracial friendship that team sports bring. ... One thing about sports as always bothered me though, if sports are a place where racial prejudices are checked at the door, why are there so few minority head football coaches? True, this question can be raised about other sports, but football is the ideal arena to tackle the issue of the glass ceiling that minorities face. ...
