Comparing Characters In both of the plays, Oedipus Rex and Oleanna, the readers are presented with characters that possess traits that lead to their own self-destruction. It is very interesting in both of these plays how we as the readers discover these flaws, and also how the characters themselves come to realize and understand their problems as well. ... I think both of these plays have a lot in common because both of the characters make their own fates and neither of them actually realizes it or want to believe it.
