Following will be my interpretation of the short story The Revolt of Mother. ... The Revolt of Mother is a fictional tale about the conflicting interests between a family-oriented mother and her materialistic husband. The Revolt of Mother displays the suppressed life style of women living in late nineteenth century rural America and the urging of breaking free of this. ... The climactic revolt at the end of the story leaves Father in tears, suggesting he genuinely did not fully perceive the extend of Mother’s frustration that took forty years to break free of. ...
Although based on women’s lives in the late nineteenth century country setting, The Revolt of Mother may have a larger meaning Freeman proposed.
