desert solitaire

In his Book Desert Solitaire, Edward Abbey brings up the idea of anthropocentrism and how he is opposed to it. ... At the beginning of the quote, Abbey says, “In trying to isolate this peculiarity [the desert], if it exists at all and is not simply an illusion” (240). Edward abbey knows that the desert really does exist, but the anthropocentric being would question weather it is real or weather it is just an illusion for man to look at. He would think the desert is a beautiful landscape created just to please man.
