Canada: The Friendly Neighbor

As we were flying over the Atlantic Ocean, the plane started to run out of fuel. All of a sudden, I lost control of the plane and it started to nose dive down to the coast of the Ellesmere islands. I managed to get the plane to fly straight for a little while by fiddling with the controls. I told my men to grab the parachutes from the back of the plane, put them on, and jump. I did this also, and we all managed to land safely on the islands. The plane smashed into the water, but unfortunately, one of my men was unable to escape from the plane before it crashed. He drowned as the plane sank to the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. Luckily, before we jumped out of the plane, Erickson grabbed a box full of safety supplies. Inside was food, water, tents, a first aid kit, a flare, and a big, blow-up raft. The waters were ice cold, and my men and I could hardly breathe. “Get…to…shore,” I managed to say. My troops and I struggled to get to the coast. It seemed like hours, but we finally reached it. “Quick!” I yelled, “Get together for warmth!” Although this helped some, two of my men still died from hypothermia. That night, my troops and I ate well and set up camp. We were to set out for America the following day because we were so homesick. During the night we were awakened by painful screams. We had a visitor, a very unwelcome one at that. He had already eaten most of our food, and ruined a lot of our supplies. Worst of all, we found our visitor just beginning to devour one of my men.
