Death of a Salesmen

|
Soaring Expectations Will I ever live up to my father’s expectations? This is the question Biff, in Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman, had to deal with while he is growing up in Brooklyn in the 1940’s. Willy fills Biff’s head with his own hopes and dreams, but Biff can only be successful if it’s in his heart. Willy wants Biff to become a big football star, but Willy doesn’t support Biff with his education. Willy also doesn’t let Biff decide what he wants to do with his life. It is impossible to chase someone else’s dreams, so Biff never reached Willy’s goals. Willy saw this as a personal failure. Willy can’t stand Biff because he failed, and himself because he also believes he failed. Willy doesn’t realize that Biff also needs an education if he is to go to college to play football.
