Lincoln had not been happy with all the fighting over slavery and threatened to make all states non-slave states if the fighting didnt stop. ... This made all slave states free except Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky Missouri, and Virginia which were slave states who were also faithful to the government so they were allowed to have slaves. ... While the Civil War was intense, Abraham Lincoln was re-elected for another four years in the election of 1864.
