English-Only Movement Currently, no federal law stating English as the official language of the U.S. There are some who would like to see this happen, for various reasons. [CAN YOU THINK OF ARGUMENTS FOR/AGAINST?] FOR: -In any other country, you have to speak their native language -Fewer immigrants speak English now (this is WRONG) -Saves time and money (yes, but at what cost?) -Not good to have bilingual education -English is being ¡§eroded¡¨ by other languages -National unity (Relationship between language and nationalism) AGAINST: -Immigrants may not have resources to learn English immediately -Violates free speech -Not intended by founding fathers Reading by KING: His first point is: English IS the national language and always has been, law or no law.
