Fyodor Dostoevsky is one of the greatest novelists and literary psychologists in the world. His works include political, social and religious issues while concerning the psychology of characters who are affected by such issues. Born in Moscow in 1821, he was educated at the St. Petersburg Academy of Military and Engineering. He was arrested for participation in a group that illegally printed and distributed socialist propaganda, and was sentenced to death (which was sham meant to affect those arrested on a psychological level). During his time in prison, Dostoevsky came to reject the socialist positions that helped him get arrested. After labor camp, he served in the military. Dostoevsky had some fortune after the publication of Crime and Punishment and went on to write other great novels (The Idiot, The Brothers Karamazov).
