Crimean peninsula looks much as a rhombus. Its western coast is formed by the Tarhankutsky peninsula and its eastern coast - by the Kerchensky peninsula. In north the Crimea is joined to the neighboring Kherson oblast by a seven-kilometer Perekopsky isthmus. From north to south the peninsula stretches for 200 km, and from west to east - for 325 km. Sea borders prevail in the Crimea, the coastal line makes about 1000 km. There are more than 2.6 million people living in the Crimea (1995). The capital of the Crimea is Simferopol (370 thousand residents). The largest cities of the Crimea are Sevastopol (more than 380 thousand residents), Kerch (about 180 thousand), Yevpatoria (110 thousand), Feodosiya (about 90 thousand), Yalta (more than 90 thousand). It is one of multinational regions.
