Claude Monet is considered by many to by the pioneer of the impressionist movement, a movement that includes very famous artists and friends of Monet as: Pisarro, Renoir, Degas, between many others. ... "My only merit," Monet wrote later in life, "lies in having painted directly in front of nature, seeking to render my impressions before the most fleeting moments. ...
Monet had struggled since the beginning of his career, from facing the denial of his family to become an artist in his youth, to go out of the standard saloons to obtain recognition of his art work in adulthood. ... These were completed after many difficulties, especially with Monet’s temperament which shifted like the weather, and that was literally, because every time the weather changed, his subject of art changed with it. ... Then his wife and companion for many years, Alice, died in 1911, removing from Monet the motivation to continue painting, and in many ways his motivation for living. Then again in 1914, his oldest son, Jean, which had suffered for some years collapsed in Monet’s studio. Depressed and without motivation he was blessed with his son’s widow, Blanche, who took care of Monet and returned him the desire to paint.
