When mentioning multiculturalism and diversity one can associate the two with Canada and its diverse environment. ... New Canadians have come from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. ... With this cultural diversity come major components such as symbols, language, values and norms, which contribute to our diverse environment. ... Over three million Canadians claim languages other than French or English as their mother tongues. ... " (Macionis and Gerber: 337) Inequality in our multicultural society can be found in many forms. ... 465) Multiculturalism lights the path to acculturation, it facilitates situations because in a multicultural society everyone is respected and accepted. ... But there is something in common to the terms used today and yesterday: the differences between intercultural and multicultural are hard to pin down and overlap to some degree cultural pluralism, cross-cultural and international studies, since they all refer to ways of life, patterns, boundaries, and relationships.
