In the Charlie Chaplin film, The Cure, the inherent comedy that is obviously seen on the surface is underscored by some serious social commentary. As stated at the beginning of the film, alcoholism had become a very serious problem in the society of the day. This film, however, approached that very serious problem in a very lighthearted way.
