The intent of Fairchild’s poem A Model of Downtown Los Angeles, 1940 is to illustrate the relationship between the aged and the youth. The bond that is created in the beginning of the poem between he and his daughter is one that is seen in almost every family. “…the mock-up L.A., whose perusal has been assigned to my daughter's fourth-grade class in California history…”(lines 10-12) We see here the father wanting t teach the daughter about the history of their environment.
