Censorship in Theatre
Censorship in theater is a response to issues that are somewhat delicate in nature, whether they be sexual, political, cultural, or religious in content. Censorship can be caused by as simple a reason as covering up offensive and derogatory language, to protect children or adults from what has been decided to be inappropriate material. ... One source accurately states that “whenever a government or private group feels endangered by free expression, it may turn to censorship to protect it’s basic beliefs.” While censorship’s goal may be to cover up sensitive issues, it also results in the weakening of a play’s message.
