Dada-Surrealism
1. In the Dada movement the artists were attempting to protest war, greed and the corrupt powers that existed. The artists wanted to break the traditional boundaries of distinct art forms and felt that Dada expressed the concept of supreme egoism, in which, laws seem to disintegrate. ... Surrealism is closely related to Dadaism. ... Breton, like other Dada artists, believed in a revolutionary way of thinking, adopting surrealism as a way of life rather than a set of stylistic attitudes. But the difference between Surrealism and Dada was that Surrealism was a positive attitude. ... Surrealism rests upon belief in the higher reality of specific forms of associations, previously neglected, in the omnipotence of dreams, and in the disinterested play of thinking”-Andre Breton. The methods used in surrealism were designed to release primitive urges and imager.
