Ridiculous, silly, strange, meaningless, illogical, bizarre, incongruous; all these are words, which depict the Theatre of Absurd. ... Through the study of many absurd plays we have learnt that “Words, Words, Words” typifies an absurd play in many ways. ... David Ives the writer of “Words, Words, Words” graduated from the Northwestern University in America. ... The play “Words, Words, Words” was first staged at the Manhattan’s Punchline Festival of One-Act Comedies in January 1987, along with many of his other works. “Words, Words, Words” is an Absurd piece, which involves three monkeys Milton, Swift and Kafka, who are interestingly enough, named after three famous playwrights. ... “Words, Words, Words” has used this theme and based their setting around it as well. ... The Major themes in “Words, Words, Words” are desperation and despair, which are displayed through how the characters deal with the tension of the task. ... ” One of the characteristics of typical Absurd plays is the way in which they make fun of human nature, “Words, Words, Words” has done this exceedingly well. ... “Words, Words, Words”, the clever use of language begins at the title through to the last line. The title is very appropriate because the play is a complete play on words. ... ” Another feature of the language which is used in “Words, Words, Words” is how the monkeys don’t have any idea what they’re saying but are using the words to try to sound better than what they are. ... Other ironic words used by the chimps are; onomatopoeic, pungent lyricism and Pomegranate. ... I believe that “Words, Words, Words” would not make a very good entry into a Senior Drama Festival because of many factors. Those factors being; a Senior Drama Festival play is expected to last 35-40 minutes and “Words, Words, Words” would be pushing to make the time limit, therefore causing some points to be deducted. ... “Words, Words, Words” typifies an absurd play in many ways as discussed earlier, these are the themes it uses, such as; isolation, repetition, routine, tension of task, desperation, despair and pointlessness, the mocking of human nature and finally the way the language was constructed. However I do not believe that “Words, Words, Words” would make a very good entry into a Senior Drama Festival due to the issue’s discussed earlier. |
