Hip-hop graffiti is an art form that is filled with expression, graffiti artists are also often referred to as writers meaning that they are people trying to make a statement about either political oppression, their suffering, racism, discrimination and many other reasons or things that might bother them (according to falco lecture). This was definitely true for most of the earlier graffiti artist but know a days it has turned into a fashionable art form as with many other art forms. So what I am really trying to say is that young kids or the youth of today start doing graffiti for a sense of being “cool” and fashionable. The whole point about graffiti is that the artists want their works to be seen by the public, that’s why they do their graffiti art on public property such as trains and walls and this was and still is done mostly on a illegal basis. Hip-hop is a culture that consists out of three things namely MC’s, who are “freestyle” rappers, B-Boys, who are otherwise known as break dancers and graffiti artists. The whole hip-hop graffiti culture is also not a black or white thing, where most people think it is associated with gangsters and criminals, I quote falco renowned South African graffiti artist “some of the very best graffiti artists, MC’s and B-Boys in the world are actually white Europeans”. Graffiti is also an art form that is generally done with spray paint mostly using public property illegally as their canvases, but most of their planning is done on paper with either pens or pencils. In the last decade or sow graffiti art has reached great heights, many graffiti artists get contracted for doing huge scale advertising work, decorative work and even jobs for the government (according to falco lecture).
