Relativity

M.C. Escher was a Dutch graphic artist, known for spatial illusions, repeating geometric patterns (also known as tessellations), impossible buildings, and his techniques in lithography and woodcutting. He was studied and greatly appreciated by respected mathematicians and scientists, although he had no formal training in both subjects. In his work, what we see the first time is most certainly not all there is to see. Intricate repeating patterns, mathematically complex structures, and spatial perspectives all require us to look twice. Escher created Relativity in 1953. In his work there are three different worlds, three separate forces of gravity, and three contrasting directions come together in a way that is hard to understand logically. Relativity shows us that what an observer sees is influenced by context and vantage point.
