An inevitable outcome of the employee/employer relationship is industrial conflict. The level of industrial conflict or “disagreements between workers and management in the work environment” (Ryan, Parker & Brown, 2003, p232), was very high during the 1970’s in Australia, causing the government to reform policy significantly. The Australian Government responded with two major stages of industrial reform, the Industrial Relations Act 1988 and the Workplace Relations and Other Legislation Amendment Act 1996.
