Dell Computer Corporation’s stock was on a rise from 1998 until 2001, when their stock dropped to less than 50 per cent of its value from the previous year. Primarily, this slide in stock price was a result of the industry-wide drop in financial performance. However, the secondary and slight reason for Dells performance was unique to Dell Computer Corporation.
The technology industry, including companies such as; IBM, Gateway, Compaq, and Hewlett-Packard, all showed a significant drop in stock prices at the same time that Dell showed a decrease. ... Dell’s stock price decreased by 65. ... This can help to conclude that the majority of the drop is industry wide, but only if Dell’s financial statement can assure that Dell’s financial performance is strong compared to its competitors. ... This drop caused reduced consumer confidence, especially for luxury items such as a personal computer. Furthermore, the computer industry began price wars due to overcapacity and price pressures. ... A 15% decrease in the growth rate of computer industries supports this. This would definitely have a negative impact on the shareholders confidence in the computer industry stocks.
