Globalization

Globalization has been an ongoing phenomenon that has instilled its characteristics and values into every country around whether they choose to participate or not. Globalization is synonymous with rising levels of involvement in the world economy, increasing dependence on other countries, and the introduction of global markets and prices. Although globalization suggests that countries will experience high economic growth and prosperity from entering into the newly formed world economy, the end result has not always reinforced these claims. In fact, the results of globalization include new constraints on a countries ability to control their own economic policies, therefore experiencing a sharp decline in their national sovereignty. ... There is no doubt that globalization has undermined every country from choosing their own economic policies, but the actual extent of how much sovereignty is lost depends on each individual country, concluding that third world or poor countries are affected far more than economic superpowers like Germany or the United States. ... With this in mind, one can clearly see how globalization has limited a country to make their own economic policies. ... Garrett describes a situation where globalization is not as harmful as others claim. ... This quote does give a few positive factors that have come with globalization, but does not continue on to say that they will not be equally spread across the globe. ... In their view, the gains from globalization are far less valuable than the several disadvantages that have become increasingly apparent with the heightened integration of world economies. ... He asserts that globalization, “will certainly enrich many-but capitalists rather than workers. ... Globalization will widen inequality, exacerbate poverty and increasingly lead to social exclusion”(Crook). All of this will occur at a time where the state has diminished power and the inability to act on their own to create economic policies in order to make sure the benefits of globalization are distributed equally.
