Geographical boundaries are the only seeming divisibilities in this age of unchecked globalization. Cultural, political, and economic globalization has led to the decline of the nation-state’s power and a deepening of global interconnectedness. The new globalization is a complex machine that controls the people and the change-purses of the world, not the other way around. The fundamental truths of globalization have been lost in the fast-paced global advancement. Globalization today has spiraled uncontrollably from the democratic possibilities Thomas L. Freedman assesses to the devouring capitalist “McWorld” that runs the global economy today. ... The advent of cheaper transportation, faster technology, and geo-political unification has changed the face of globalization since the model Adam Smith presented. Now globalization means many things. ... To others globalization is a social and political process of peoples and institutions that shape worldviews . Whatever the definition, the “small owner-managed enterprises located in the communities where the owners resided” and who “share in the community’s values and have a personal stake in its future” of Adam Smith’s vision no longer exist, and have been replaced by a free for all in the different sectors of the global world (technology, economy, politics, culture, environment) with little regard for the individual (Elwood 17). ... Their globalization efforts are concentrated in three fundamental points: free trade in goods and services, free circulation of capital, and freedom of investment.
