A Day's Wait
A Day’s Wait People respond to fears in different ways. In Ernest Hemingway’s A Day’s Wait, Schatz fears he is going to die. As he waits to die, Schatz seems detached from the activities around him. However, Schatz’s father is unaware of his son’s anxiety. His father notices Schatz’s unusual behavior, but fails to genuinely understand his son’s concern. He assumes that Schatz’s sickness is a minor incident, and that it is just a “light epidemic of the flu.” On the other hand, Schatz is attempting to endure death.
