To quote the Bill of Rights, “Congress "shall make no law" respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or "abridging" the freedom of speech, or of the press; or "right" of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievance.” The Freedom of speech is supposed to be a guaranteed right given to all the citizens of the United States of America. ... It is important to have freedom of speech because it allows new ideas, perspectives, thoughts, etc to be introduced that will improve our life. ... Throughout history there has been an ongoing fight for the freedom of speech. In many countries they have very little tolerance to negative free speech. ... The specifics this essay will cover includes conflict with the freedom of speech in old and recent times, along with the end results. The other paragraph will cover some of the “exceptions” to freedom of speech, which show that we do not have complete freedom of speech. ... This shows how important free speech really can be. ... He was not given the right to freedom of speech. ... While these events happened in a very different time period, they show that the battle of freedom of speech has been going on for a long time.
