American History

... Well this is what happened in American History by Judith Ortiz Coffer. ... The people in this area were all Puerto- Rican, African American or any other new immigrants who had come to the United States. ... All the students in her school and people around her could not respect her for who she is, then why should she be sad about one of them, an American, who has passed away. ... The parents and the Puerto Rican families were not so involved with other people other than Puerto Ricans and that is why they felt so bad about the presidents’ death, but on the other hand, Elena, she goes to a school full of American and African American kids and she has been around different people more, and that is why she doesn’t feel bad for Kennedy’s death. She gets treated bad at school by the African American girls and gets talked rudely by a white American because she is not like them being a Puerto Rican; they think she is not smart, nor is she in the same social status as them. ... Then why should it affect her to care about an American guy’s death even if he is the president, when this is how she is being treated in a country led by this man.
