Sports 3 Canadian Sports Sports today, for example, hockey, have become more popular in the United States than in Canada. The American teams have all the greatest players and the most money to afford all of these players. Hopefully the American hockey fans know where the game they love originated. Basketball and Rugby are also sports that have been born in Canada. Basketball is one of the biggest sports in the US and Rugby is more popular in Europe. In professional basketball there is only one Canadian team. All other 30 some teams are American. Canadian sports are important to Canada and, have we lost the passion for the game? We need to support the more or they will be part of Canadian history sooner than we hope. Hockey is one of our more popular sports in Canada. The first hockey game was played in Canada over one-hundred and twenty years ago. The first professional hockey game was played in Toronto. It was against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians. That was the beginning of one of our greatest accomplishments in Canada. Hockey Night in Canada is usually on a Saturday night.
