1. Mr. Jones was the owner of the Manor Farm who would often drink and neglect his animals. He treated the animals terribly, often whipping, overworking, and underfeeding them. Once he got so drunk he had forgotten to feed the animals and they rebelled and succeeded in kicking him off of the farm. Boxer was an honest and hard working carthorse that had tremendious strength and determination. His sheer determination makes building the huge stone windmill possible. His two sayings: “I will work harder” and “Napolean is always right,” show his loyalty and effort he put forth for Napolean. Although not the smartest animal, as proven by he couldn’t remember the alphabet past “D”, his strong will, even after being injured, kept him working, until he suddenly collapsed and was ruthlessly sent to the glue factory to be killed by the pigs. Clover is a very nice and intelligent female and as a fellow cart horse one of Boxer’s closest friends. She is very suspicious of the pigs and suspects them of possibly changing the commandments however blames her poor memory for the change. Benjamin is an elderly donkey who is very intelligent but chooses not to use it to his advantage. He often hung around Boxer but rarely talked to anyone. He was able to read but rarely did. He was the one person who foresaw the pigs intentions from the very beginning yet he still did nothing. As he said, “Life will go on as it always had-that is badly.” Mollie was a female that loves attention and being treated like a princess. She was very vain and this was not appreciated by anyone on the farm. She didn’t help in any of the fights against the humans and had an extremely hard time staying away from the human pleasures she enjoyed before animal farm such as her ribbons and sugar. Mollie soon left the farm and was even seen by Moses the raven being petted and pulling a carriage for humans.
