Imagine that everywhere you go and look you see nothing but advertisements. You see “BUY BUY BUY” “AAAAH”. To tell you the truth anyone in their right minds would become crazy if this were to happen to him. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that my life reflects what is in the media instead of the media reflecting what is in my life. I am a little embarrassed to say that the media has a profound influence on my life when I step back and truly evaluate how I live. I always thought that I was a "flagpole"' so to speak: a person who would stand tall and proud waving my own flag, refusing to sway with the tornado of ideas brought on by the media. But when I stepped back to look at my life and how it intertwined with the media, I saw that the two were bonded so strongly to each other that the Jaws of Life couldn't pry them apart. I asked myself, "How could you let yourself become so influenced by the media? And I found this answer staring me in the face, "How could you not?" It's hard for me to imagine that a person could not be influenced by the media, even in the smallest way. Media, such as newspapers, advertisements, and magazines, can influence people (including myself) on things from the way they dress, to the formation of their opinions. In this essay I will talk to you about the four different reasons I think media influences people which are they are extremely sexist, lot of consumerism is present, Racism is a major factor for advertisements and it creates a virtual or unreal life. So why does media influences others using sex? Have you ever looked at a magazine? Magazine has ads and 9 out of 10 times they are using sex to sell or showing subliminary messages. Newspapers, particularly the editorial section or the commentary section, can make me form opinions parallel to the author's, before allowing myself to think about the issue and how it affects my values and my life. The writing may be persuasive or it may use the bandwagon technique, and thus I feel that those opinions belonging to the writer can just as easily belong to me.
