Brutus and Antony’s Speech Comparison
In my opinion, I believe Marc Antony’s speech was more effective than Brutus’ speech. Antony’s speech was the one to convince the citizens that the conspirators were traitors and had murdered Caesar not according to their own reasons, but that of reasons unknown. ... One example of this was where Antony shows that Caesar was not ambitious which Brutus said he was. This can be found on page 131, lines 90 to 94, “…He hath brought many captives home to Rome, Whose ransoms did the general coffers kill…When that the poor hath cried, Caesar hath wept…” Another example of this can be found on page 131, lines 95 to 99, “…I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition…” This surely proved to the crowd that Caesar was not ambitious, and that Brutus had lied to the crowd earlier.
