David Herbert Lawrence, ranked among the most influential and controversial literary figures of the 20th century, has the ability to drastically represent the conflict between love and society, and express the natural love between a man and a woman with great symbolism and rhetorical aspects hence making him the ideal subject to study at a College level. With great works of fiction such as his most famous Sons and Lovers and Women in Love, Lawrence took fiction to a higher ground, introducing to literature some of the most pleasant and inversely bizarre behaviors of men and women, when led by the strong mysterious force known as love.
When reading Lawrence’s work, specifically the short fiction series, the reader is surrounded with hints and passages that can be interpreted in so many ways, yet still arrive to the central idea that the author tries to portray. ... This is one of many events in his short fiction, where Lawrence tries to explain the nature of love; that it comes in mysterious and unexpected waves; that it cannot be controlled and that once initiated its hard to hold back. ...
Here we can observe Lawrence’s constant repetition of the doctor trying to convince himself that he will not fall into love yet there was something inside beyond his control.
