Lord of the Flies "They used to call me `Piggy.' These are the words of Piggy in Lord of the Flies by William Golding which presents the story of a small society with characters representing actions, strengths or adaptations which are necessary to survive. It is a story of good versus evil where innocence gradually turns into savagery and where within the savages, only one remains on constant ground; Piggy. Because Piggy differs so much from the others, he does not fit in, especially because he is obese and asthmatic. Although he is clumsy, Piggy has the best characteristics of leadership and should have been chief because he is the most mature, intelligent, and represents order in society. Piggy should have been leader because he the most intelligent of all the boys on the island. For example, “I’ve been thinking,’ he said. ‘about a clock. We could put a stick in the sand” (64). Piggy’s way of thinking differs from the rest of the boys.
