In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, we discover that Macbeth is a tragic hero. Macbeth is very ambitious, courageous, and a moral coward. At the beginning of the ply, Macbeth is portrayed as brave, selfless warrior, and loyal to his lord Duncan. ... The sergeant describes Macbeth after the battle by saying: “For brave Macbeth – well he deserves that name – disdaining fortune, with his brandish’d steel, which smoked with bloody execution, like valour’s minion carved out his passage till he faced the slave;” (Shakespeare, 2). By that, he means that Macbeth ignoring the dangers, with his sword carved his way through the battle until he faced and killed the enemy.
