Merchant's tale
How Does Chaucer Create Ironic Humour in The Merchants Tale by his use of Language? Chaucer uses comedy in a variety of ways and in a variety of places. One of the most obvious ways in which he does this is in his use of plot. He will use the storyline to create humour and impossible situations for the characters of the book that more often than not highlights their weaknesses. It is often very amusing to read about how the character tries to get out of the situation. For example, take the situation when January can suddenly see and finds out about May and Damyan being together. Mays gives a wonderful excuse that being with Damyan was the only way of returning Januaries sight.
