Money and Creativity

In order to have a broad, creative and artistic view on the world one must have financial comfort. Virginia Woolf’s thesis states: “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction. ... Having money provides freedom, a new level of thought and creativity, which opens the mind to artistic expressions, such as good writing.
Women did not have money of their own for such a long period of time. ... Independent wealth, of course, is the road that leads to creativity. ... In this quote from the end of her essay she wraps up her argument that women have never had money and always been poor. ... “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well,” is an interpretation of the importance of having money in order to be creative. In order to truly “dine well,” one must have money, and in order to be truly creative, one must have a “room of her own,” or privacy.
