Market Size and Growth ORIGIN January 2003 (000's) % 03/02 From the U.S. 652 +6.8 From Overseas 182 +11.6 TOTAL 834 +7.8 Tourism Spending in Canada according to the Canadian Tourism Commission: • In 2001, total tourism expenditures in Canada reached $54.6 billion, up marginally by 0.9% from 2000 (Canadian Tourism Commission, 2003). • Tourism spending in the recreation and entertainment industry, the passenger rail transport industry and the food and beverage services industry registered strong growth (4% to 5% range) in 2001 from the year before (Canadian Tourism Commission, 2003). • Between 2000 and 2001, domestic tourism expenditures increased by 1.3% to $38.4 billion, while foreign tourism spending in Canada rose by 0.2%, reaching $16.2 billion (Canadian Tourism Commission, 2003). Based on the statistics provided by the Canadian Tourism Commission, the overall performance of the tourism industry has been positive. Foreign travel into Canada grew considerably from 2000 to 2001. It can be seen that the tourism market is growing, thus, creating opportunities for the pretended bed and breakfast business Retreat of the Rockies.
