No Ordinary Woman

You know the old saying “It’s a Man’s World,” as mythic as it might sound for women it rings all but true, especially for Louise Mallard, the main character of Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour.” Kate audaciously depicts the stringent life of women not only in this piece, but throughout history. It thoroughly reiterates conventional notions about gender relations with an anecdote that enlightens the audience. She uses imagery to give life and setting to give a theatrical presence to the reader. It is undeniably clever to intertwine fact with fiction. She was able to tell a story, yet in between the lines bring consciousness to the social role and identity of women and the harsh effects of the two. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard portray a typical married couple of the Victorian age (late 1800s). Brently Mallard, the husband, is the head of the household, while Louise Mallard, is his possession.
