Water pollution has been steadily increasing since the start of the industrial revolution. The advancement in technology and the growing world population has turned a once unknown problem to a widespread epidemic. The creation of a variety of factories, coal burning plants, and the side effects of human practices have assisted in then amount of polluted water.
There are two types of sources of water pollution that exist; point source and non-point source. The difference between the two is how pollution is emitted to water. Point source occurs when harmful substances are directly transported to water, while non-point source delivers pollutants to water through environmental changes (Poppe, pg. ... Both of these sources are equally harmful to water and all recipients of contaminated water. ... These institutions allow fluids of varying quality to be transferred into urban water supply.
