Oedipus the king
... In Sophocles’ poem “Oedipus the King”, Oedipus experiences times of fame/shame, sight/blindness, and ignorance/insight. At the beginning of this poem, Oedipus holds himself up on a pedestal. He believes he is the king, the man, and that “everything ends here, with [him]”(1048). ... As arrogant a man as he is, one would think he would be able to figure out that he himself was the downfall of his reign as king. He later finds out that he killed Laios, the previous king of Thebes, whom is also his father. Oedipus tries to blame everyone but himself.
