Phantasm of Ghost and Spirits as found in Three Stories of Speculative Fiction

Nathaniel Hawthorne, “Young Goodman Brown” (1835), Harriett Beecher Stowe, “The Ghost in the Cap’n Brown House” (1870), and Abraham Merritt, “The People of the Pit” (1918) all share the common myth of ghost fiction and evil god fantasy. These stories include different icons, stereotypes, and rituals to express the same myth about ghost and spirits which also include the presence of evil god in this Universe. The fantasy and fiction elucidated in these stories not only identifies the presence of ghost and the fear of unknown evil god, but also give a tentative affirmation that the myth would slowly summon into the real world.
These classical gothic stories broach the myth of religious people and the evil spirit that resist against each other. ... In contrary to the myth, “The Ghost in the Cap’n Brown house” (1870) exemplifies that people who are religious and go to church every now and then cannot make wild or wrong conjectures at all. The story is a perfect example of old conceptions and the fantasies about ghost and spirits that could exist in this world. ... The last story of “The People of the Pit” (1918) also identifies the evil spirits and delineates hell on Earth that exists in between the five mountainous peaks. ...
In the classical ghost story “The ghost in the Cap’n Brown house” (1870), written by Harriett Beecher Stowe illustrates the myth about religious people and the evil ghost that could exist in the old-town. The story emphasizes more on the evil ghost and revolves around few individual who are dubious whether to believe the religious people or whether the ghost story is just an apocryphal statement being pushed forward in the small town to intimidate and abash the wealthy sailor.
