The Crucible:What was Hale's Primary Motivation?

In The Crucible, which was written by Arthur Miller, John Hale, was a Revered from a village that was near Salem, Massachusetts. Reverend Hale was famous for investigating accusations of witchery, and finding the accused not guilty. The Crucible is a dramatic play that is built upon fiction and fact. It is set in Salem, Massachusetts at the time of the Salem witch trials. In the play, the character Reverend Hale investigates those who were accused of witchery. He did not seek out witches for his own fame, but for the destruction of the devil. Throughout the play, Reverend Hale’s actions were motivated by him trying to be as righteous as possible. However, in the end, Hale tries to persuade the accused to falsely admit to the witchcraft, so that they could be saved from hanging.
