William Shakespeare: Hamlet In the past, there were many great play writers; one play writer in specific is William Shakespeare. Throughout his life, he has composed many play writes. One in specific would be the play Hamlet which was first performed in 1603. In the play Hamlet, a lot of important themes developed such as: betrayal, loyalty, madness, spying etc. But throughout the play, revenge is the predominant theme. Revenge is to seek or take vengeance for oneself or another person. Between Hamlet and Laertes, the reasons they want revenge are similar in ways, but the methods they approach for revenge are different. This in a sense shows the dignity they have for themselves and the honour they have for their father. The theme revenge begins when Hamlet finds out the murderer of his father from the sprit of King Hamlet whom he encountered at the platform before the castle. “…The serpent that did sting thy father’s life / Now wears his crown.” (Shakespeare 1988, Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 39-40) From the fact that is given to him, he begins to seek revenge. He starts to plan out his plot as to what he is going to do and to find out if Claudius is the murderer.
