The character of Friar Laurence in the famous play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, is the priest and friend of the Capulet and Montague family. He has a supportive, caring nature and tries only to do what is right when solving the many problems of Juliet Capulet. The Friar can see a way in which this new love of Romeo and Juliet – Montague and Capulet – could perhaps end the ancient feud and unite the families. ... The conclusion of the play could be interpreted to be the fault of Friar Laurence, or maybe simply fate; a tragedy bound to happen.
Friar Laurence is first confronted with the problem of whether to marry Romeo and Juliet without their parents permission and in private. The Friar is also taken-aback by Romeos quick change of heart from the beautiful Rosaline, to Juliet; the daughter of his great foe. He asks Romeo, "Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! ... He says to Romeo and Juliet before rushing them off to his chapel, "You shall not stay alone, till holy church incorporate two in one. ... The Friar is trying his best to keep their marriage holy and pure, and hopes that their strong love for each other will eventually unite the families.
