Why did Jesus die

... Mark gave an excellent account of what Jesus did and said when he was alive 2000 years ago. Jesus has just called his twelve followers to him so he can teach them. ... The first one is that Jesus came to [pause] serve. Jesus came to serve. ...
But, when God did come to earth, in the person of Jesus, he tells us that he came to serve us! ... When Jesus talks about the ‘Son of Man’, he is actually talking about himself. The Bible gives many titles to Jesus, sometimes ‘Jesus the Christ’, other times ‘Jesus the Messiah’ or ‘Jesus the Lord’. ‘Son of Man’ is just another title that Jesus liked to use to explain that he was God on earth.
So we can see from the first bit of our verse that God came to earth as Jesus so that he could serve people. ... But here is Jesus saying that that is exactly what God (who is far more important than the Queen) has decided to do! ... It is that Jesus came to [pause] die as a ransom. Jesus came to die as a ransom. ...

So, from what Jesus is saying, we can be clear that many people have been kidnapped, and are being held to ransom.
