In spite of the fact that I have had many uplifting experiences with my family, my aunt’s wedding was probably the most memorable for many reasons. My Aunt Robin’s wedding was a wonderful jump-off point for my family, due to the fact that my grandfather has passed away only 6 months earlier. To give you a little bit of background information, my grandfather, or in out family called “Pop-Pop,” was what I would consider to be the glue in our family. He was the one who always made sure that the family got together during the holidays, and stayed together throughout the year. He was the one who planned Christmas dinner, and sent cards to his 12 grandchildren on their birthdays to show us that he cared. All of the previous leads up to why December 24, 1997 was so tragic for my family and myself. Why, you ask? Simply because on Christmas Eve 1997 Pop-Pop died. From the eyes of a child it appeared that my family and its entirety died with him.
