1. Mr. Kongo Gondo is faced with a dilemma when Schinichi the chauffeurs’ son has been kidnapped and the kidnapper demands 30 million yen which Gondo must decide whether to pay the ransom and face financial ruin or let Schinichi die. The kidnapper with a desire to topple the wealthiest man chose Gondo who is the rich owner of a shoe company had set out to snatch his son, but nabs his chauffeur's kid by mistake. The decision is tuff because Gondo planed a coup that will secure his position as the head of his Yokohama shoe company and it was an amount that had taken Gondo 30 years of labor to accumulate. 2. Mr. Gondo finally decided to resolve the dilemma buy paying the ransom of 30 million yen. Because the chauffeur is a pitiable widower, however, begs him to pay the ransom. Gondo is a tortured man, fighting with knowing that paying the ransom will ruin his deal and ruin him. In the morning he is still resolved to refuse to pay. But he has spent a sleepless night. Guilt and conscience overwhelms him. But what convinces him does the chauffeur, who finally urges him not to pay it, knowing what it will cost his boss. At the same time no one expects the kidnapper will give up the child unharmed. Gondo changes his mind. Also if he lets the boy die every one will detest him for his selfish act his reputation will be in ruins since no one would want to have any thing to do with a child murderer. His son would get mad by letting his friend die. Also Gondo realizes that the police can also help by fining the kidnapper and getting him money back. The chauffeur, a pitiable widower, however, begs him to pay the ransom. Gondo is a tortured man, fighting with knowing that paying the ransom will ruin his deal and ruin him.
