INSTUD 202 03/03/03 Media Project “If we seek to understand a people we have to put ourselves, as far as we can, in that particular and cultural background… One has to recognize that countries and people differ in their approach to life and ways of living and thinking. In order to understand them we have to understand their way of life and approach. If we wish to convince them, we have to use their language as far as we can not language in the narrow sense of the word, but the language of the mind.” J. Nehru Intercultural communication, we have to admit, is difficult. Even after the natural barrier of a foreign language is overcome, we can still fail to understand and to be understood. Why this is and what can we do? Many problems can be avoided by understanding J.Nehru’s phrase which I made as an epigraph to my assignment. The true story which I am going to write about had been taken place back to the middle of 1990’s where my and one Dagestanian family were involved. My parents was working in the big hospital were one famous professor invented some essential cardiopulmonary equipment.
